Water deeply once or twice a week, allowing the top few centimeters of soil to dry out slightly between waterings. Established plants are somewhat drought-tolerant but will produce better fruit with regular moisture. Avoid waterlogging, which can lead to root rot.

Pruning is crucial for managing the vigorous growth of Riverbank Grape and optimizing fruit production. Perform major pruning in late winter or early spring while the vine is dormant. Remove any dead, diseased, or damaged wood, as well as crossing branches. Thin out congested areas to improve air circulation and sunlight penetration. Employ a cane or spur pruning system to encourage new fruiting wood from the previous season for better yields.

Vitis riparia is readily propagated from hardwood cuttings. Take cuttings in late winter or early spring from healthy, dormant wood, ideally pencil-thick and 20-30 cm long, ensuring each has at least two nodes. Plant them directly into moist, well-drained soil or a rooting medium, burying at least one node below the surface. Using a rooting hormone can significantly increase the success rate of root development.

Given its vigorous growth and mature size, Vitis riparia is best suited for growing directly in the ground rather than in pots. If container cultivation is attempted in very large vessels, repotting would involve carefully root pruning and refreshing the potting mix every few years to maintain vigor. Ensure the container has excellent drainage and provide a robust support structure. Generally, container growing is not recommended for long-term health.
